DNA Test

Why Perform DNA Testing?

As a large breed, Maine Coons are associated with several known heritable health risks. Through professional DNA testing, we are able to:

  • Prevent from the source: Determine the genetic status of our breeding cats and plan pairings scientifically to avoid passing on disease-causing mutations to offspring.

  • Ensure kitten health: Provide a clear genetic health certificate for every kitten leaving our cattery, giving you peace of mind as you welcome your new family member.

  • Uphold breeding ethics: This practice reflects our core commitment to responsibility—toward life, toward you, and toward the future of the breed.

Your Assurance of Health

DNA test results are our written commitment to health. All kittens are born from parents who have been screened for relevant genetic diseases, ensuring the next generation is free from these known hereditary risks. We believe that transparency and responsibility grounded in science are the first steps in building trust—and the most lasting gift we can offer every family.

Our Screening Standards

We utilize internationally recognized testing services to conduct comprehensive screening for all cats in our standard breeding program. Core test panels include:

  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM-MC): A heart condition that can lead to cardiac dysfunction and sudden death.

  • Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PK Def): A metabolic disorder that may cause hemolytic anemia.

  • Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA): A neurological disease affecting motor neurons, leading to muscle weakness and atrophy.

Taking our kitten "Peanut" and breeding queen "Sunflower" as examples, their test reports (issued by the GEPET laboratory) show results of "WT/WT" (Normal) for all three conditions. This means they do not carry the disease-causing mutations for these inherited disorders.
